Home Caretaker spends a number of hours every year on a local community project, collecting toys for underprivileged children in Knysna.
The week before Christmas, Home Caretaker & Roundtable Knysna goes around the suburbs in Knysna collecting food, money and toys.
On Christmas morning we distribute these gifts to those less fortunate than us. At one of these events, the kids at one of the Family welfare Children’s Home was extremely happy for the gifts. One of them, I guess to be 6 or 7, was particularly happy with her gift. What struck me was that she did not even know how to open the wrapping! I helped unwrap the gift, when she saw it her eyes lit-up with a sparkle! Now she can’t speak (not sure why as the social workers may not discuss the kids cases or circumstances with us), but the expression and the look in her eyes told me that we achieved our goal of helping a child that really needed it! When we left she stood in front at the fence waving bye to us. So often we and Roundtable help people that are in need, but seldom do we see full appreciation like this.
